- 3% of males nationally experience rape or attempted rape in their lifetime.
- 16% of rape survivors report the crime to law enforcement.
New Mexico Statistics
- 1 in 4 females will experience rape or attempted rape in their lifetime.
- 1 in 20 males will experience rape or attempted rape in their lifetime.
In 2006:
- 82% of survivors knew their perpetrator prior to the assault.
- 97% of child rapes were perpetrated by someone known to the child.
- 90% of adolescent rapes were perpetrated by someone known to the adolescent.
- 38% of sexual offenses were committed in the survivors home, 24% in the offender's home, and 11% occurred in another private residence.
- 34% of sex crimes that were reported to service providers were also reported to the police.
