New Mexico Statistics of Sexual Violence

In New Mexico, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 20 men will experience sexual violence in their lifetime.1

 Sexual violence has been perpetruated in our communities and we need to understand the epidemic if we intend to change it. Below are statistics around sexual violence in New Mexico. 


New Mexicans who Experienced Rape or Attempted Rape in Their Lifetime

 In New Mexico, it is estimated that 1 in 4 women (24%) and 1 in 20 men (5%) will experience rape or attempted rape in their lifetime, included completed, attempted, and substance-facilitated penetration.1


Sexual Violence Reported by Age of Survivor


 The majority of survivors in New Mexico experience sexual violence as children (44%), followed by as adults (33%), and least as adolescents (23%). 1


Sexual Violence Reported by Race/Ethnicity

 In New Mexico, the highest reported rates of sexual violence are among Hispanic survivors (45%) followed by White survivors (30%) and Native American survivors (15%).1
